Uncle Tupelo - 89/93: An Anthology
2002

Amazon-Uncle Tupelo has received far more attention retrospectively than the band ever did while active. Maybe the best thing about this compilation, then, is that it ignores the myth and exalts the music. Issued eight years after the Jay Farrar/Jeff Tweedy split that yielded Son Volt and Wilco--and compiled with the participation of both parties--the anthology gathers its 21 tracks from every stage of the band's brief career. It's all here: lurching rockers like "Graveyard Shift" and "Outdone," ballads both rich ("Still Be Around") and raw ("Gun"), and more polished acoustic tunes, like the stark "Black Eye" and the bouncy "New Madrid," that came as Tweedy found his voice. There's also Farrar's definitive cover of the traditional "Moonshiner," and on "Chickamauga," his most desperate, galvanizing guitar solos. And, of course, there are the "hits" ("Whiskey Bottle," "The Long Cut"). Interspersed throughout are seven formerly hard-to-find songs, including covers of Creedence Clearwater Revival and the Stooges, live versions of the album cuts "Looking for a Way Out" and "We've Been Had," and the non-album originals "I Got Drunk" and "Sauget Wind." To top it off, everything's been remastered, and the sonic upgrade does wonders to brighten up and animate the older material.

Wilco - A.M.

Wilco's 1st album, very country, but very good.
Box Full of Ltters and I Must Be High are great, I used to think Summerteeth was their most accesible album, but this def is.

Jeff Tweedy - Sunken Treasure:
live in the pacific northwest
2006

I've been listening to this nearly non-stop since October when I got it.

A brilliant free download of the audio from the dvd show, just him with an acoustic guitar for everything except 1 or 2 songs towards the end and its awesome, crowd sings along, he fucks up songs, chats with the crowd but best of all the is its good music and its live, opening track Sunken Treasure is great.

Albert Hammond Jr - Yours to Keep
2006

This is better than the last Strokes album and in my opinion sounds like a Strokes album, what does that tell you?, is he the brains behind the whole band? the John Frusciante of The Strokes?"Back to the 101" in paticular, is a very cool song
(i did think"You Only Live Once" was an awesome song on the Strokes album, one of the best of the year, but then they fucked it up with an awful video by an overrated director)

Simple Kid - SK2
"Sophomore album by Simple Kid (AKA Ciaran McFeely), the Irish singer/songwriter often compared to Beck. This album takes the home recorded element to it's extreme, with many of the basic tracks recorded on his eight-track machine using C-60 tapes as masters! Features everything from raw Rock 'N Roll to a banjo-vs-beatbox hoedown! Universal. 2006."

Teenage Fanclub - Grand Prix

I really like album covers, a good cover can make or break my decision whether to listen to an album or not. So its strange, i like this album so much, but its an awful cover, so shit its unreal, so i'm posting a pic of the band instead. Seen them 2 yrs ago in Dublin and they were brilliant. Not a bad song on the whole album, contains Neil Jung, often said its the best song they ever wrote.
